Yet countless movie theatres have fallen by the wayside across the city over the years. They will be remembered with fond memories by thousands of cinema-goers who enjoyed a trip to the flicks to see their favourite movies back in the day. 13. Forum Cinema
Do you remember Forum Cinema on Chapeltown Road? It opened in October 1936
14. Crescent Cinema
The Crescent Cinema opened in August 1921. The architects made the most of a steeply sloping site on Beeston Hill and a small variety stage was included. It closed in July 1968.
15. Capitol Cinema
The Capitol Cinema on Green Road in Meanwood opened in November 1922 and ran until July 1968 with Bonnie and Clyde starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway the last film to be screened.
16. Tatler Theatre
The Tatler Theatre on Boar Lane began screening feature films around 1958. It closed in January 1964 and was later demolished and Royal Exchange House office building was built on the site.
17. Scala Cinema
The Scala Cinema on Albion Place welcomed generations of film fans. It closed in August 1957 with Across the Bridge starring Rod Steiger the last film to be screened.
18. Pavilion Cinema
Pavilion Cinema on Stanningley Road enjoyed five decades before closing in April 1970 and being converted into a bingo hall. Photo: K S Wheelan
