These wonderful images feature landmarks in the market town including Boroughgate, Kirkgate and Crossgate as well as shops and pubs you may remember from back in the day. The Woolpack public house on Bondgate which dates back to at least the 18th century when it was built as a dwelling house. It was later converted to an inn and was known as the King's Arms around 1827 but had become the Woolpack by 1861 when Frederick Freeman was landlord. It closed as a pub around March 2009.
