This view of Quarry Hill Flats was taken from St Peter's Street in June 1967. The flats were constructed in the mid to late 1930s and were the largest and most modern in Europe at the time. The flats housed 3,000 people. They were demolished in 1978 and Leeds Playhouse now stands on the site. Photo: Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net

A summer exhibition of paintings held around the gardens in front of the Civic Hall on July 13, 1967. The paintings are the work of Leeds Painting and Sketching Club and feature landscapes, still life and abstract works. Alderman J.S. Walsh, Lord Mayor of Leeds, and Mayoress attending the official opening of the new office of the Westminster Bank on Park Row in January 1967. The new building occupied the site of the former Beckett's Bank, which opened on June 3, 1867;this merged with Westminster in 1920 and continued on the site until being demolished around 1964. In 1968 the Westminster merged with the District Bank and the National and Provincial Bank to form National Westminster Bank which occupies the building to this day.
