Well-travelled routes in the heart of the community such as Domestic Street, Meadow Lane and Balm Road are featured in this wonderful package of memories celebrating a decade to remember. They are published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.

Meadow Lane in July 1956. On the left at number 106 are the premises of Green & Smith Ltd., electrical engineers (Albert Works). This building was once the Spread Eagle Inn. Next right is the entrance to Spread Eagle Yard. The central property in the image houses number 104 and 102. In a directory for 1940 number 104 on the left had been listed as a butcher's shop, proprietor Jas. Ansell Bulmer. Number 102, right, was a chemist's run by Percy Walker Brentnall. Set further back is number 100, in 1940 a house furnishers, business of Fred Plews. Numbers 98 and 96, far right were a confectioner's shop managed by Agnes Brooks.
