Charity was high on the agenda for a generation of schoolchildren and residents who were busy filling shoeboxes to send to disadvantaged children in Europe over the festive period. 7. Leeds at Christmas in 1998

Charles Wilson puts in the final present in a giant Christmas stocking bound for Martin House Children's Hospice. The presents were donated by staff and parents from the Bright Skies Day Nursery, Rawdon.
Fulneck School pupils had been busy collecting provisions for Christmas hampers which were to be distributed to elderly people in the Burmantofts area of Leeds.
Groundwork Leeds were sprucing up the Thorpe Community Garden in Back Oackley Street in time for Christmas. Taking a break from their work the children are rewarded with a seasonal mince pie.
