Avril Barton created an Amazon rainforest style garden on the pavement outside her back to back terrace home in the community. And the atmosphere and experience of the tropics was enhanced further thanks to her two Parrots Dottie and Charlie. This was 2004, a year in which LS8 was a proud and defiant community determined to fight back. Locals were demanding action on issues of anti-social behaviour as well as crime and urban stagnation.
