Two more coronavirus cases confirmed in Leeds bringing total up to seven

It brings the total number of cases in Leeds up to seven.

As of 9am on Thursday, four cases have also been confirmed in North Yorkshire, two new cases in Sheffield and the first two cases in Calderdale, Public Health England (PHE) said.

A total of 590 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the UK, up from 456 at the same point on Wednesday, with 44 confirmed cases in Yorkshire and the North East.

Today's rise in confirmed cases in the UK is the largest day-on-day increase since the outbreak began.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals has previously reassured patients that measures have been introduced to protect patients and staff while also ensuring services are available to the public "as normal."

Regular hand-washing is the single most important action individuals can take in the fight against Covid-19.

Anyone who thinks they have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) is advised to use the NHS 111 online service.

A spokeswoman for the Leeds health and care system said: "If you feel you need to speak to someone you can call NHS 111.

"Please do not go to your pharmacy, GP practice or hospital.

“We'd also like to remind people of the importance of regularly washing their hands using soap and water.
