It has donated 600 pairs of trainers worth £45,000 to the hard-working NHS heroes at Leeds St James’s University Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary.

The customer favourite, Balina trainer, was gifted to nurses across the two hospitals to say thank you for the outstanding work they continue to do to care for patients in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

Because of the long hours the nurses work, the white, cushioned trainers were chosen to provide the comfort they need both on and off duty.

Gianni Casagrande marketing manager at Moda in Pelle said: “Our local NHS heroes are doing an incredible job to keep us all safe and both of the hospitals we’ve chosen are close to our heart.

"While we can never truly repay them for the work they do, we hope this gesture goes a little way in showing the nurses just how much we appreciate them and all that they do.”

The brand Moda in Pelle was established in Leeds in 1975, when it opened its first store on Leeds’ Bond Street. For decades, the brand has supported the local community, including NHS Leeds and the amazing work of its medical staff.

It comes as part of a long line of thankyous for our NHS workers. People and businesses across the country have united to show their support and give thanks, whether through priority supermarket shopping times, meals delivered to staff on shift or the nation taking to the streets to clap for our carers.

And, the YEP is joining with titles across the JPIMedia portfolio to celebrate health workers across Leeds, who are the very front line of keeping our nation safe during this uncertain time, as part of our #HealthHeroes campaign.

They are the doctors, nurses, porters, cleaners, administrators and many, many more who are making sure our extraordinary national health service can keep up with the increased demand as more people turn to it for help during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The YEP will be bringing you heartwarming stories of how those on the frontline are going the extra mile to keep us safe.
