Major surgical breakthrough for Leeds as hospital introduces pioneering robotic technology
Leeds hospital takes major step towards the future of surgery with new robotic system
Patients at a Leeds hospital set to benefit from pioneering robotic surgery after it became one of the first to introduce the latest generation of surgical technology to the region.

Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital has completed its first six procedures using the state-of-the-art da Vinci 5 system, marking a major step forward in its ambition to bring cutting-edge, minimally invasive surgery closer to home.
During the first week, the hospital’s team successfully performed six robotic-assisted procedures using the next-generation platform, further strengthening access to advanced minimally invasive surgery for patients.
The da Vinci 5 represents the latest evolution in robotic-assisted surgery technology.
Through an advanced surgeon console, immersive high-definition 3D visualisation and highly articulated instruments that replicate the movement of the human hand, the system enables surgeons to perform complex procedures with exceptional precision and control.
First surgeon to use the da Vinci 5 a Mr James Tibbott, consultant gynaecologist at Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital, said: “The first da Vinci 5 (DV5) case is now complete, and everything went really well. The team was exceptionally well prepared and took it all in their stride.
“One of the most exciting things about robotic surgery are the improved patient outcomes that we’re able to achieve in a minimally invasive way.”
