Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield smashes fundraising target as challenge ends in Headingley tomorrow
Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield has passed his fundraising target as his challenge to raise awareness for Motor Neurone Disease finishes in Leeds tomorrow.
He aimed to raise £777,777 for his Seven in Seven: Together challenge which started on Monday.
Sinfield, 45, whose team has already raised over £10million from five previous challenges, completed the fifth stage of his ultra run in Whitehaven yesterday.
The former Leeds rugby league star’s latest challenge had raised over £936k so far.
He is running the challenge in memory of his friend and former Leeds team-mate Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with MND in late 2019 and died in 2024, aged 41.
He'll power through to the finish line at the AMT Headingley Rugby Stadium tomorrow, joining the Santa Dash runners to celebrate the completion of this year’s monumental challenge.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post he earlier said: “Running through Headingley on that last day will be really, really special, to see so many people dressed as Mr and Mrs Santa Claus.
“To be back in Leeds with so many people supporting the cause, like they have done for the last five years, will be a great way for us to finish.”
Sinfield was in Leeds last month to attend the opening of the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease at Seacroft Hospital.
Building work began the day after Burrow’s death and Sinfield reflected: “To get to see it, it showed me we’re continuing to do the right thing.
“The centre will make a huge difference and provide the care and support and love people with MND deserve and haven’t got, sadly, in the past.”
