Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Health Minister, Matt Hancock have described the Covid vaccine as the key to returning to normality after months of lockdowns..

Over two million people in the most at risk groups,- including care workers and over 85s - have now received the vaccination.

If you are included in the groups of people prioritised for a vaccination then you should expect a letter inviting you to book You will need your NHS number for the booking.

So, where can you find this information and how do you book an appointment? This is what you need to know.

How do you find your NHS number?

Your NHS number is a personal identification number and no two people have the same one.

It can be found on any documentation or letter you have received from the NHS, such as any correspondence informing you about an appointment.

If you cannot find your NHS number, you can contact your GP who may be able to help you.

However, because your NHS details are private, you may be asked some questions to help identify you.

How do you book a Covid vaccination appointment?

You can book an appointment on the NHS website.

You can only book an appointment if you have received a letter telling you to do so and you must be registered with a GP prior to booking your appointment.

The Government has said it has made a conscious effort to ensure everyone can access a vaccination centre close to their home.

When booking your first appointment, you will also need to book your second appointment in order to get both doses.

Your second appointment will be 11 or 12 weeks after you receive your first dose.

What should I expect at my appointment?

NHS England suggests that appointments take between 30 and 45 minutes.

This will include:

- Being checked in using your booking reference numbers

- Answering questions about your medical history

- Having the vaccination

You will then need to wait for around 15 minutes after having the vaccination, so nurses can ensure you do not have any adverse reactions.

You should wear a face mask at all times in the vaccination centre, unless you are medically exempt.
