Geoff Boycott backs Leeds cancer victim's fundraiser

Father-of-four Simon Fox, 51, from Roundhay, has undergone a successful operation to remove the majority of cancerous brain tumour.

He has been told drug Avastin is the best treatment to attack the inoperable part of the tumour, but it is not approved for use on the NHS to treat brain tumours.

The Simon’s Soiree fundraiser will be held at the Allerton in Nursery Lane, Alwoodley, on Friday night. (Nov 4)

There will be a meal for 200 people at the neighbouring Charlie Brett’s restaurant along with a disco and jazz band.

Mr Fox’s wife Sharron said Geoff Boycott has offered an auction prize of a meal for four with him and his wife at Charlie Brett’s.

Among other items set to be auctioned on the night are signed Leeds United, Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire County Cricket Club shirts.

Mrs Fox said around £18,000 has been donated at gofundme.com/SimonsBrainSurgery and her husband is due to start treatment on Avastin next week.

Mrs Fox said: “People have been so supportive helping us with the fundraising and we are very grateful.”

Mr Fox married Sharron, of East End Park, last November after doctors told him he could only expect to live a maximum of six months.
