Leeds West Academy, on Intake Lane, Rodley, sent a letter home to parents today to inform parents of the positive tests in Year 11.

The letter read: "Unfortunately, I am writing to advise you that two Year 11 students at Leeds West Academy have today received positive tests for COVID-19.

"Both students were last on the academy site on Friday 25th September and they have not returned to the academy since becoming symptomatic.

"We wish both of our young people a full and speedy recovery.

"Unfortunately, as your child is in the same year group bubble as these students, in accordance with the Government’s Test and Trace Programme, they must now stay at home and self-isolate for the next 14 days until Wednesday 14th October, even if they do not have symptoms.

"This is to help prevent the virus spreading to others.

"Other members of your household do not need to self-isolate unless your child starts to show symptoms of COVID-19."

Dan Whieldon, acting principal, said collapsing the bubble "is not a decision I have taken lightly, but the safety of our community is paramount" in the letter.

Mr Whieldon continued: "We will ensure that the remote learning provision for our students, during their time away from academy, supports their studies fully to allow for minimal disruption to their education.

"During the day today we consulted fully with both the Department for Education and Public Health England who have endorsed this decision."
