A report published ahead of the Leeds Teaching Hosptials Trust board meeting later this week said “good progress” was being made against the Government’s ambition to vaccinate those in the first four priority groups by mid-February.

The report gave a run-down of figures relating to the vaccine roll-out so far across Leeds and West Yorkshire, with the total number of vaccinations given across the county between December 8 and January 17 listed as 157,594.

The numbers of under 80s who had been given their first doses, by January 17, was 71,558, with 68,120 over 80s.

It added: "The highest daily delivery total for vaccination across West Yorkshire was 12,000 people and site capacity continues to increase."

The report said West Yorkshire currently has 62 vaccination sites - 48 provided by primary care networks, four community pharmacies, 10 hospital sites and four community vaccination centre which were due to open over the next few weeks.

As of January 20, the hospital hub site at the Thackray Medical Museum had given out over 10,000 doses of the vaccine, mainly to health and social care staff.

And the operation was reportedly getting slicker, with the report stating the average length of time taken for people to have the vaccine, from entering the building to exiting, had been nearly halved between week one and week four - from 41 minutes to 27 minutes.

It added: “The team has subsequently set an ambitious lead time target of 20 minutes to further improve patient experience.”

As well as the Thackray hub, the report said the Covid-19 vaccination site at Elland Road has been operational since January 20 to support the acceleration of vaccinations for frontline health and care workers, before it officially opens to the public next month.
