Grace Melling, from Horsforth, took up the challenge after watching her mum and dad run the 5km challenge for the NHS.

Wanting to help her aunt and Granny, who both work for the NHS, Grace decided to spread the challenge over five days last week dressed in her best princess dresses.

Grace's mum Amy Melling said: "Her daddy joined us on Saturday's run - it was her fastest one yet and she spent the whole time shouting “come on daddy keep up!"

"Grace initially asked me if she could raise £4 because she was four years old, but I said because she was running such a long way we should perhaps ask for a little bit more. She was aiming for £20.

"She can't even comprehend how much money we've raised."

Amy posted an update on Facebook after Grace completed each run and hundreds of people commented in support of the challenge.

The family's JustGiving fundraiser has raised a total of £1,425, which will be donated to NHS staff and volunteers working on the frontline through the Association of NHS Charities.

Amy added: "Grace is wishing she was running again this morning! We knew that we had an amazing set of family and friends, but we have been truly overwhelmed by the support.

"The true heroes are those in the NHS battling on the front line every day, so to all of you from our family a huge thank you."
