This is how the UK's Covid vaccine rollout is going - the data so far by nation and age group

More than 20 million people in the UK have now received a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, according to the latest government figures.

This amounts to the equivalent of 31.4 per cent of the total UK population and 39.8 per cent of people aged 18 and over.

The vaccination programme has now entered the next phase of its rollout after everyone in the first four priority groups, including those aged 70 and over, care home residents, healthcare workers and people required to shield, were offered a jab by mid-February.

The rollout is now being expanded to include those aged 60 and over, and those with underlying health conditions.

Nine in 10 people aged 65 and above have now received their first dose, NHS England announced on Monday (1 March), and invites have been sent to those aged 60 to 63 to arrange their vaccination.

The rest of the over 50s will follow, with the government aiming to offer everyone in priority groups five to nine a vaccine by 15 April.

Here is how the rollout is progressing across the UK so far.

England

A total of 17,785,702 people have received a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine up to 3 March, according to NHS England.

This is the equivalent of 31.6 per cent of the total population of England, and 40.2 per cent of people aged 18 and over, based on the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.

The latest available breakdown for age groups in England is for doses given up to 28 February.

By this date, an estimated 94.9 per cent of people aged 80 and over had received their first dose, along with 100.9 per cent of people aged 75 to 79, 95.4 per cent of people aged 70 to 74 and 85.4 per cent of people aged 65 to 69.

The percentage for 75 to 79-year-olds is over 100 per cent because population estimates do not correspond exactly to the number of people eligible for a first dose in that area.

A total of 93.8 per cent of residents of older adult care homes in England eligible to have their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine had received a jab by 28 February, as well as 72.9 per cent of eligible staff in older adult care homes.

Care home residents and staff are classed as eligible for the vaccine if they have not had Covid-19 in the previous 28 days.

Scotland

As of 4 March, 1,688,608 people have received a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, according to the Scottish Government.

This is the equivalent of 30.9 per cent of the total population of Scotland, and 38.1 per cent of people aged 18 and over.

The proportion of people aged 80 or over to receive a first jab has exceeded the estimated population for this age group, as has the proportion of people aged 75 to 79.

Some 99 per cent of residents in all care homes have also had their first dose, while the total figure for staff in all care homes is 87 per cent.

Wales

As of March 3, 951,540 people have received a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, according to Public Health Wales.

This is the equivalent of 30.2 per cent of the total population of Wales, and 37.7 per cent of people aged 18 and over.

The latest data on vaccinations by age group is currently unavailable due to technical difficulties, Public Health Wales has said.

Northern Ireland

A total of 556,721 people have received a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine as of 3 March, according to the Northern Ireland Department of Health.

This is the equivalent of 29.4 per cent of the total population of Northern Ireland, and 38.3 per cent of people aged 18 and over.

As of 2 March, 96 per cent of people aged 80 and over are estimated to have had their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine, along with 91 per cent of people aged 75 to 79, 86 per cent of people aged 70 to 74 and 72 per cent of people aged 65 to 69.

All care homes in Northern Ireland have been visited and offered the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
