Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced on Wednesday that the city will not move to the highest Tier 4 restrictions with three quarters of the country.
Instead, Leeds and the rest of West Yorkshire will remain under the 'Very High' alert level restrictions.
Here's how the city centre looked on the day of the announcement:
1.
Three quarters of the country will be moved to Tier 4 restrictions from Thursday (tomorrow).
2.
Household mixing is still banned anywhere indoors, including going to shops with people from another household but two households can mix in limited circumstances in parks and fields, but only if observing the rule of six.
3.
Non-essential shops can remain open, along with personal care salons, such as hairdressers, and leisure facilities such as gyms.
4.
Leeds has been under the Tier 3 'Very High' alert level restrictions since the second national lockdown ended on December 2.
5.
It was also announced today that the Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid vaccine has been approved in the UK for mass rollout - it will be rolled out in Leeds and Yorkshire from January 4.
6.
In Tier 3, hotels must close and overnight stays outside the local area are not permitted.
