The Leeds areas with the highest Covid infection rates as Delta variant cases rise 46% in a week

Cases of the Delta variant of Covid-19 first identified in India have risen 46 per cent in a week across the UK, new figures show.

Public Health England (PHE) said there had been 35,204 more cases since last week to reach a total of 111,157 – a 46 per cent increase.

Leeds recorded an infection rate of 266.7 in the seven days to June 22, the latest available figures. That's up 41.8 per cent from the previous week.

But some neighbourhoods have far higher infection rates.

7. Kippax East, Micklefield & Allerton Bywater

Leeds City Centre recorded 71 new cases, a rate of 522.2 . It’s up 115.2% from the previous week.

Horsforth West recorded 27 new cases, a rate of 447.5. It’s up 145.5% from the previous week.

Leeds Dock, Hunslet & Stourton recorded 35 new cases, a rate of 416.0. It’s up 75% from the previous week.

Gledhow recorded 24 new cases, a rate of 407.7. It’s up 500% from the previous week.
