Government ministers are considering whether to place more areas of England under the toughest coronavirus restrictions in an effort to contain the spread of a new variant of Covid-19. In Leeds, the rate of Covid infections has remained steady over the past few weeks, with the average infection rate currently standing at around 143 new cases per 100,000 people. But there have been large increases in some part of Leeds. Here are 17 areas of the city where the infection rate has risen in the seven days to December 17, the latest available figures. Yeadon South had 13 cases in the seven days to December 17, that’s a rate of 227.4 per 100,000 people. The rate is up 225 per cent from the previous week.
2. Yeadon West
Yeadon West had 12 cases in the seven days to December 17, that’s a rate of 224.3 per 100,000 people. The rate is up 71.4 per cent from the previous week.
3. Garforth South, Swillington and Little Preston
Garforth South, Swillington and Little Preston had 15 cases in the seven days to December 17, that’s a rate of 221.1 per 100,000 people. The rate is up 200 per cent from the previous week.
4. Horsforth South and Rawdon
Horsforth South and Rawdon had 16 cases in the seven days to December 17, that’s a rate of 192.2 per 100,000 people. The rate is up 220 per cent from the previous week.
5. Otley North
Otley North had 11 cases in the seven days to December 17, that’s a rate of 179.1 per 100,000 people. The rate is up 120 per cent from the previous week.
6. Guiseley East and South
