Positive coronavirus case in Year 8 at Royds School in Leeds as bubble collapsed

A positive coronavirus case has been confirmed at a Leeds secondary school - with a bubble collapsed and affected children sent home.

A year eight pupil at Royds School in Leeds tested positive for the virus - with the school confirming the result on Tuesday to parents.

Parents were told to collect affected pupils who had been in significant contact with the affected pupil.

The year eight bubble was closed and the relevant students were sent home, Claire Robbins, Headteacher of Royds School said.

In a statement, the headteacher said: “We received confirmation of a positive case in Year 8 on Tuesday morning.

"Following the robust procedures that we have in place, we immediately closed the affected bubble and those students were sent home.

"We contacted the Department for Education for further advice and, as directed, have identified everyone who has had significant contact with the case.

"Those affected have been asked to remain at home and self-isolate in line with national guidance.

“The safety and wellbeing of our whole school community continues to be our main priority and we have safety procedures and risk assessments in place to help limit the spread of the virus.

"We are grateful to students and parents/carers for their ongoing support.”
