Over 98% of Leeds residents aged 70 and over have now had first Covid vaccine dose - as daily cases rise

Latest figures show that over 98 per cent of people aged 70 and over living in Leeds have now received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

This means that 88,185 people living in Leeds who are aged 70 and over have had their first jab.

This equates to 98.2 per cent of all those in the city in that age bracket.

The latest available figures are for the NHS Leeds Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which commissions most of the hospital and community NHS services in the city.

The figures also show that out of 135 CCGs across England, Leeds has the 122nd highest percentage for people aged 70 and over to have had their first dose.

It comes as the daily Leeds coronavirus infection rate has risen consecutively for the past three days.

The latest recorded case rate was 163.8 cases per 100,000 people with a positivity rate of 7.9 per cent on February 22.

This was a rise from the published rate on February 21 which was 162.6 cases per 100,000 people.

The CEO of Leeds Council, Tom Riordan, tweets the rates each day.

On February 22, he tweeted: "Leeds case rate up slightly again to 163.8 per 100k (from 162.6). Positivity is down a bit to 7.9%.

"In line with the Government roadmap now published, for now please stay in unless essential, keep your distance and do take the vaccine when called by the NHS."

The case rate on February 20 was recorded as 158.2 cases per 100,000 people which was a rise from 157 cases per 100,000 people the day before.
