More than 1,250 students and staff test positive for Covid at University of Leeds but big drop in new cases

The university has published its fifth batch of weekly figures online in what it says is a 'bid to improve transparency' about transmission rates at the university.
The latest figures show that 45 new Covid-19 cases were reported.
Of those, 34 are students and 11 are members of staff.

The university was later informed of an additional 16 cases during a previous period - 10 students and six staff members.
This brings the weekly total to 61.
The figure is down by almost a third from the previous week, when 91 new cases were recorded.
Overall, the total of reported positive coronavirus cases at the university is 1,285.
The university is home to 38,000-plus students and 9,200-plus staff.
