GPs in the city are working to provide vaccinations for care home residents and patients over 80-years-old.

Vaccinating these groups will remain the priority.

However, the Government has said that vaccination sites which have enough supply and capacity are now able to offer vaccinations to over 70s and clinically vulnerable people.

There are 17 sites for the jabs now open across the city, with a large vaccination centre at Elland Road expected to open in the coming weeks.

Vaccinations are by appointment only and patients should not contact their GP about a vaccination unless asked to do so.

They should not attend any vaccination site without an appointment.

The Government has set the target for a vaccination centre to be less than 10 miles away from every resident in the UK.

And the Yorkshire Evening Post has teamed up with sister titles across the country to urge Prime Minister Boris Johnson to go one step further - to deploy the country’s network of 11,000 pharmacies to ensure that every citizen is only a short walk away from a centre.

The campaign also requests further reassurance for local communities from the Government and more easy-to-access information on the vaccine programme and its progress.

How do you book a Covid vaccination appointment?

You can only book an appointment if you have received a letter telling you to do so and you must be registered with a GP prior to booking your appointment.

You can then book an appointment on the NHS website.

The Government has said it has made a conscious effort to ensure everyone can access a vaccination centre close to their home.

When booking your first appointment, you will also need to book your second appointment in order to get both doses.

Your second appointment will be 11 or 12 weeks after you receive your first dose.

What should I expect at my appointment?

NHS England suggests that appointments take between 30 and 45 minutes.

This will include:

- Being checked in using your booking reference numbers

- Answering questions about your medical history

- Having the vaccination

You will then need to wait for around 15 minutes after having the vaccination, so nurses can ensure you do not have any adverse reactions.

You should wear a face mask at all times in the vaccination centre, unless you are medically exempt.
