Leeds records highest number of new coronavirus cases in the country

Leeds has recorded the highest number of new coronavirus cases in the country within the last seven days to September 5.

Public Health Data published on Tuesday, September 8 confirmed that the rate in Leeds has risen from 32.5 to 56.1.

This is a total of 445 new cases.

The figures, for the seven days to September 5, are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Data for the most recent three days (September 6-8) has been excluded as it is incomplete and likely to be revised.

In Bradford, the rate has increased sharply from 49.1 to 74.7.

This is an increase of 403 new cases.

Bolton has recorded the highest rate in England.

It is up sharply from 61.9 to 12.83 per 100,000 people.

This is an increase of 369 new cases.

Other areas with notable increases include Liverpool which has gone from 15.1 to 46.2 with 230 new cases.

Manchester has gone from 41.4 to 62.8 with 347 new cases.

Salford has gone from 38.2 to 63.4 with 164 new cases and Sunderland has gone from 8.6 to 57.3 with 159 new cases.
