The rate in over 60s on January 27 was recorded as 210.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is an increase from January 26 when the over 60s rate was recorded as 201.3 cases per 100,000 people.

When announcing the rates, the CEO of Leeds City Council, Tom Riordan, has said that "almost 80,000 people have now had the first vaccine jab in Leeds".

On January 27, Mr Riordan tweeted: "Hope you’re having a good day.

"Leeds case rate down to 293.8 per 100k (from 295.7) & positivity down to 12.1%.

"Rates in over 60s are up to 210.6 though so please do stay in if you can and keep your distance.

"Best news is that almost 80,000 people have now had the 1st vaccine jab in Leeds."

The case numbers on January 26 were up on those on January 25, when the rate was at 274.2 cases per 100,000 people and positivity at 12.2 per cent.

The Council CEO did however say that "this may be partly due to people getting tested after heavy snow days the week before last", but that this was not a reason for relaxation as the "new UK variant is more widespread in the city".

He tweeted on January 26: "Leeds case rate is back up to 295.7 per 100k (from 274) and positivity up a bit to 12.4%.
