Leeds Council is closing car parks at its parks to stop people travelling for exercise

Drivers will no longer be able to park their vehicles at parks run by Leeds City Council.

The authority tweeted on Sunday that all car parks at Leeds Council parks are being closed, either with barriers or simply notices.

They stressed in the message that government advice is that people should not be travelling to exercise.

The latest advice is that people should "stay local" and not travel unnecessarily for exercise.

Leeds City Council tweeted on Sunday afternoon: "All car parks at Leeds parks are being closed - some with barriers, others may just have notices - but please be safe as government advice is you should not be travelling to exercise."

The major parks run by the council are Golden Acre Park, Middleton Park, Roundhay Park, Temple Newsam, Pudsey Park, Tropical World, Otley Chevin Forest Park, Kirkstall Abbey and Lotherton.

The council closed playgrounds in all of its parks on Monday, March 23, shortly before the UK went into lockdown.

There are now (Sunday, March 29) 133 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Leeds.
