The Leeds areas with the worst Covid infection rates as Boris Johnson announces third national lockdown

People in Leeds have been told to stay at home as Boris Johnson imposes a third national lockdown.

In a televised address to the nation on Monday night, the Prime Minister told the nation to stay indoors other than for limited exceptions, with measures expected to last until mid-February. The move is in response to the “rapidly escalating” numbers of infections following the emergence of the new variant. The infection rate in Leeds has risen to 253 new cases per 100,000 people, with a positivity rate of 23.7%. But coronavirus is spreading more rapidly in some areas of the city. These 13 neighbourhoods had the highest infection rates in the seven days to December 29, the latest available figures. All images are for illustrative purposes only.
