'I will love you forever': Sister pays tribute after 30-year-old popular Leeds DJ died from coronavirus

Liam Downing was a popular disk jockey from Middleton, Leeds, who courageously battled leukaemia for two years.

Liam - who was well known in Leeds - was recently given the news that he only had a few months to live and started to make a bucket list of everything he wanted to do.

Last week, Liam was admitted to hospital with what was thought to be an infection.

However, his family was told he had contracted coronavirus just three days later - described as 'devastating' by his sister Laura Downing.

On March 27 - just four days after his birthday - Liam finally lost his brave battle and died from coronavirus after battling leukaemia for two years.

Now, a fundraising page has been set up in his memory by his family.Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, his sister Laura said Liam left behind three nieces and two nephews.

She told how her brother created the bucket list for his final months.

She said: "He was a DJ.

"I haven't revealed his bucket list yet but the funniest one of them all was that he wanted to buy a day rider and go absolutely everywhere he could on the bus!

"He never got buses as he always drove, he loved his cars."

In an earlier online tribute, Laura said she would treasure memories with Liam 'forever'.

In a social media post, Laura said: "Liam lost his battle with leukaemia and coronavirus this afternoon 27/03/2020.

"He has fought leukaemia for nearly 2 years and last week we were told there was nothing more they could do to help him.

"Expecting Liam to have at least a few months he started making a bucket list of things he wanted to do before he died.

"To then be told he had coronavirus was just devastating.

"He was never going to do what he wanted to.

"We were uncertain whether he was going to see his 30th birthday in which I’m so thankful he did.

"I’m so unbelievably proud of you Liam!

"You fought so long and hard but now is your time to relax!

"You’re now out of pain!

"I’m so glad we had so much laughter together as we got older.

"I’ll forever cherish those memories! "

"What a legend you are!

"I love you Liam for ever and always!

"Sleep tight, spread those wings and you fly high my bro!

"I’ll see you again on the flip side!"

Over £1000 has been raised on a fundraiser for Liam since his death.

On the GofundMe page - which can be found by clicking here - his sister said money raised towards the £8000 target would be spent on a plot, headstone and flowers.

In a touching gesture, she said if any money was left over, it would be donated to the hospital that looked after Liam for the last two years.

She said: "I have set this page up to give Liam the best send off we possibly can and give him a beautiful final resting place that he deserves where we can all go visit him, to spend time and talk to him.

"Money raised will be spent on Liams; Plot, Headstone, Flowers.

"Any money left over I would like to be able to send our parents on a little night away as its the least they deserve after the last few years we have has as a family.

"Also if we are lucky enough to have any money left, I'd like to donate it to the hospital that looked after Liam for the last 2 years."
