The Covid infection rate across Yorkshire as new cases rise in three areas

The Covid infection rate has risen in three Yorkshire areas over the last week, with rates falling across the rest of the region.

York and all areas of North Yorkshire are currently in the 'high' Tier 2 level of restrictions, while West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and The Humber are in the 'very high' Tier 3 category. The tiers will be reviewed on December 16 and while local councils are pushing for Tier 2 restrictions, it will be the Government that has the final say. These are the current infection rates of every local authority area in Yorkshire, listed from highest to lowest rates. The latest figures, which are for the seven days to December 9, are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two). The rate is expressed as the new number of new cases per 100,000 population. Pictures are for illustrative purposes only.
