In the letter to year 9 parents, Mr Norden said: "Regrettably I have taken the decision to close the school to Year 9 students for the rest of the week and the following week.

"This is due to an increase in confirmed Covid-19 cases amongst staff and students, including three students in Year 9.

"I can assure you that this has not been an easy decision to make.

"If the need to ask a year group to remain at home due to staffing shortages continues after this week, other year groups will be prioritised.

"However, if there are further Year 9 cases, your year group will be affected further.

"I know that this news will present students and families with a significant challenge and we will support you as best we can through these extraordinary times."

Year 9 students will be expected to study at home and information has been sent out to parents on how to receive daily worksheets.
