Sarah Davies paid a special visit to Hunslet Carr Primary School as part of the British Gas Get Set for Positive Energy roadshow.

Sarah was crowned Miss Leeds in 2012 but two years later ended up blazing a new trail in the weightlifting world.

She cemented her place in history by becoming the first British woman to win the Under-23 European Championships in 2015 and won a Commonwealth Games gold in 2022.

Sarah supported 90 pupils at the school learn about Olympic values while also looking at how they can tackle energy consumption.

Martin Lumb, headteacher at Hunslet Carr Primary School, said: “Our students learned so much from the session with Sarah Davies and British Gas - and had plenty of fun along the way too.

“It was great to see them so engaged on important topics that will set them up for their futures, including conscious energy consumption and how to lead healthy lifestyles.

“Sarah also did a brilliant job of inspiring the children with her athlete journey.

“A big thank you goes to the whole team for visiting us.”

Hannah Lawrance, strategic brand partnerships lead at British Gas, added: “This is the third year of our Get Set for Positive Energy roadshows and every year we’re so proud of the results and impressed with the enthusiasm the pupils demonstrate – we had a great day with the students at Hunslet Carr Primary who got really stuck into the session.

“We’re passionate about educating the future generation on the importance of conscious energy consumption so they can carry this with them and help protect our planet in years to come.

“It’s a pleasure to be able to deliver this roadshow alongside the Team GB and ParalympicsGB team too – with their insights into healthy living, it’s a partnership that brings together lots of meaningful values.”

The Get Set for Positive Energy roadshow is part of British Gas' wider Get Set for Positive Energy initiative, a free cross-curricular programme for young people aged five to 11.

Through the partnership with Team GB and ParalympicsGB, British Gas aims to reach up to 8,500 schools and 1.5 million young people and families across the UK by 2028, inspiring the next generation to build healthier, more sustainable habits.
