Save the date: open evening at school with old-fashioned values and modern facilities in Yorkshire

The school is set to welcome prospective parents and students at its open day so that you can find out more about what makes this school the popular and successful establishment that it is.
The school opens its doors on Thursday October 5 between 5.30pm and 8.30pm and will provide an opportunity for prospective students and their parents or guardians to have a tour of the facilities, sample lessons and activities in each department and to meet members of the team as well as some of the pupils.
The headteacher will give presentations at 5.45pm; 6.45pm and 7.45pm.

Happy pupils make good learners
Holmfirth High school, in Heys Road, boasts one of the best attendance records in Kirklees – in fact it ranks highly in the UK.
The school puts this down to having happy, contented and safe children who enjoy their schooldays.
There are six guiding principles for education and learning at the school which are: Attendance, Behaviour, Classroom, Extra-Curricular, Environment and Enjoyment.

Consideration and respect for others in school, as well as good manners, are of paramount importance at Holmfirth High School. After all, they say, if teachers can spend their time teaching in a well-ordered and disciplined environment, pupils are more likely to learn, achieve their goals and their ambitions.
Broad curriculum
There is a broad curriculum with basics like English, Maths and Science at the core, but emphasis too on Sport and the Arts as well as Technology.
But pupils are also encouraged to take part in trips, competitions and other experiences outside school time – something they say can be as valuable and rewarding as their more formal lessons in the classroom.
Come along and see for yourself, at the open evening on October 5. Find out more about the school by visiting their website here.
