A 3G artificial grass pitch (AGP) is planned to help boost fitness activities for youngsters at Brigshaw High School in Allerton Bywater.

The project would including perimeter fencing and floodlights at the Brigshaw Lane school if planning permission is granted by Leeds City Council.

A design report said: “Brigshaw High School is committed to promoting physical activity and well-being among its students.

“The addition of the AGP will support this commitment by offering improved training and playing surfaces for various age groups and teams.”

An all-weather floodlit facility would allow for football training and matches all year round, the report said.

Part of the school’s existing playing fields would be redeveloped under the scheme, designed to comply with the FA and Sport England guidance.

The facility would also be available for community use, with opening times agreed as part of the planning process.

Timers would be used to switch the lights off at the proposed times of 10.15pm, Monday- Friday and 6.15pm at weekends and Bank Holidays.

LED technology would be used to avoid glare from the floodlights spreading into the surrounding area.

The report said: “The AGP will serve both the football club and a wider network of community users including grass roots clubs, partner organisations and inclusive sports programmes.”

A full planning application for the scheme is out for consultation until May 27.
