New school building in Leeds hits construction milestone with steel signing ceremony
A new school building in Leeds has hit a major construction milestone after pupils and staff took part in a steel signing ceremony.
Representatives of Holy Trinity CofE Primary Academy, Rothwell and Abbey Multi Academy Trust came together for the ceremonial steel signing, adding their signatures to the structure that will support the school’s future home.
The new school building, which is due to open later this year, is being funded the Department for Education’s School Rebuilding Programme.

It will be equipped with modern classroom technology, a large hall, office and meeting space plus dedicated rooms and resources for curriculum needs such as food technology.
Miss Gemma Briggs, Headteacher, stated, “Seeing our new school building take shape has been a wonderful experience for our children, staff and families. This project represents an exciting new chapter for Holy Trinity and we are delighted that our pupils have been able to play a part in its journey.
“The new facilities will give our children an inspiring place to learn and grow and will support us in continuing to provide the very best for our school community.”
The new Holy Trinity building will also support Abbey Multi Academy Trust’s Sustainability Strategy, with the school designed to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly, helping to build a greener future for future generations.

Planned as a Net Zero in operation building, the new site will incorporate features such as solar panels and a ground source heat pump to meet the latest energy efficiency standards.
The project has also provided pupils with a valuable chance to learn about the importance of sustainability.
“Holy Trinity has served the community of Rothwell for generations. Our new building will allow the school to teach, support and inspire many more generations to Love, Believe and Achieve,” Adam Burwell, the school’s Chair of Governors added.
Holy Trinity has been working with the site’s developers Bowmer + Kirkland to create unique learning experiences for the pupils, who have regularly taken part in guided visits around the construction site, wearing high visibility vests and hard hats as they watch their new classrooms being built.
During the visits they have learned about onsite safety and are being introduced to the wide variety of careers within the construction sector.
