And for those moving in to student accommodation, the university promised to have effective social distancing measures in place, including:

- A staggered and contactless arrivals process

- Extra cleaning of halls

- Hand sanitiser being provided

The university added: "International students will still need to register in person due to immigration rules, but in a socially distanced way.

"If you are an international undergraduate student, don't forget we can guarantee you single-occupancy University accommodation as long as you apply by 1 July."

Unfortunately, one of the most eagerly anticipated parts of the university experience - freshers' week - will not be the same as normal.

The university added: Your elected student representatives and teams in Leeds University Union are working with us to develop a series of activities and events, both on campus and online, so you can be sure of a warm and friendly welcome at the start of the new term.

"We know you will have questions about how the next few months will feel for you on your particular course.

"You will have received an email today, and further detail will be sent from your school in July.

"Stay safe and remember, it won't be long until we're together again."
