Leeds specialist college helping young people with SEND build brighter futures through Supported Internships
A specialist post-16 college in Leeds is helping young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) gain the skills, confidence and workplace experience needed to move into employment.
Lighthouse Futures Trust works with young people aged 16 to 25 through its Pre-Internship and Supported Internship programmes, supporting them to prepare for and progress into the world of work.

A spokesperson said: "By partnering with employers across sectors including healthcare, retail, finance, horticulture and local government, students gain real-life experience while receiving tailored support from specialist job coaches."
The college says many young people with SEND are keen to work and have the skills to succeed but continue to face barriers when looking for employment.
Through supported internships, students have the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities in the workplace, while employers benefit from a diverse and committed workforce.
A growing number of employers across Leeds are working with Lighthouse Futures Trust to provide meaningful work placements, helping students develop confidence, independence and valuable employability skills. Many businesses report that supported interns make a positive contribution to their teams and bring enthusiasm, reliability and fresh perspectives to the workplace.
As preparations begin for the new academic year, the college hopes more employers will consider becoming involved and offering opportunities to young people with SEND. Expanding access to supported internships can help more young people achieve greater independence while supporting businesses to develop a more inclusive workforce.
Lighthouse Futures Trust is a specialist post-16 college based in Leeds, dedicated to supporting young people with SEND to achieve positive employment outcomes through personalised education and employer partnerships.
