Leeds news LIVE: Boris Johnson announces new national lockdown from Wednesday after Covid cases surge

Boris Johnson will speak at 8pm on Monday where it is thought the Prime Minister will announce a new national lockdown.

The announcement is in response to surging Covid rates across the UK. Check back here at 8pm for the latest as soon as we have it for how it affects Leeds and Yorkshire.

UPDATE: Leeds will enter a new national lockdown from Wednesday morning. It means you must stay at home except for food, exercise, essential shopping and medicine, and you must work from home unless you have to go out.

The schools remaining closed in Leeds are:

- Gildersome Primary School

- Manor Wood Primary School

- Hugh Gaitskell Primary School

- All Red Kite Learning Trust Schools - Templenewsam Halton Primary School, Temple Moor High School, Austhorpe Primary School, Colton Primary School, Whitkirk Primary School

- Broadgate Primary School

Most schools remain open to the children of key workers/ vulnerable children.
