Prospective pupils and their parents can see behind the scenes at Benton Park School at the open evening on Wednesday, 2 October, from 5.30pm to 8.30pm; headteacher Delia Martin will address families at 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

Parents and carers face a variety of important decisions about their child’s development, none more so than their education. Choosing a secondary school or sixth form can be a minefield of questions and worries but Benton Park School, which was rated good by Ofsted following an inspection last year, puts high-quality teaching and learning at the heart of teachers’ and staff’s work.

In the words of Year 8 pupil Jake, “the atmosphere at Benton Park is very happy, welcoming and I always have a smile on my face.”

Lessons at the school inspire students, with each lesson delivered being challenging, motivating and engaging. Students at the school and in the adjacent sixth form find themselves in a supportive and collaborative learning environment; teachers understand and provide structured learning for the individual needs of each student within their lessons.

In his report, Her Majesty’s Inspector Barry Found acknowledged that: “Teachers are working hard to raise the expectations of all pupils through their planning to stretch and challenge them in their learning.”

All of this has helped pupils to gain some impressive exam results this year: 25 per cent of all GCSEs were grade 7 or above, with three-quarters of grades being 4 and above. This was in addition to some remarkable A-level results, when 75 per cent of students achieved grades A* to C grades.

"There has never been a better time to join us at Benton Park School as we create an excellent climate for great learning, success and opportunity for all our students,” says Ms Martin.

"We pride ourselves at Benton Park School in valuing each and every one of our students and, as leaders, ensure they are at the centre of everything that we do. Our students have an exceptional attitude to their own learning, and this ensures we have an excellent learning environment."

Benton Park provides a wide range of both subjects and extra-curricular activities that allow students to develop their inquiring and creative minds. Within the school the message is clear: all learners have the opportunity to be involved in learning beyond the classroom, and the school’s engaging curriculum provides students with the opportunity to learn beyond the boundaries of individual subjects and the confines of the classroom.

The excellent climate created for great learning, success and opportunity supports every Benton Park student. They treat all students as individuals, which allows all to achieve their full potential.

Benton Park School strives to provide a safe and friendly environment for all, with a positive and friendly ethos. This is achieved through a strong culture of pastoral support and guidance offered to ensure students feel valued and happy – a view clearly supported by Jake!
