Reading is one of the key parts of any curriculum, and at primary school, children are tested on their reading skills when they reach year 6. Schools are then given an average score in reading mark by the Department for Education (DfE) - who say the expected score is 100.
The average scaled score is the mean scaled score of all pupils awarded a scaled score. It only includes pupils who took the test and achieved a scaled score - the higher standard is a score of 110 or over.
To mark the National Year of Reading, the Yorkshire Evening Post has launched a new ‘Leeds Reads’ campaign to spark a love of reading across the city. To celebrate this we have compiled a list of the 15 best Leeds primary schools for reading skills according to the DfE.
