But several business have recently closed their doors, some for good, due to the increasing pressures of the cost of living crisis or as the owners move on to new ventures.
From a popular Horsforth bar to high street staples including Jack Wills and Paperchase, here are 12 Leeds businesses we have loved and lost this spring.

7. Banyan Horsforth
Banyan Horsforth announced its permanent closure on April 11. The New Road Side branch was one of eight venues run under the Banyan name, including sites in Leeds City Square, Roundhay and Ilkley that remain open. Kirkstall Brewery has now confirmed it is taking over the former Banyan site, which will be refurbished and reopened with a new name and concept later this year. Photo: Google

8. Jack Wills
The Jack Wills shop in King Edward Street permanently closed down on April 15. The UK fashion retailer was bought out of administration in 2019 by Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct company and dozens of the stores have closed in the intervening years, with the branch in Leeds’ Victoria Quarter the latest to join them. Glasses brand Ace and Tate have now announced plans to open at former clothing shop. Photo: National World

9. Curated Makers
Curated Makers closed its doors on April 15 after 18 months in the Trinity Leeds shopping centre. Originally scheduled as a three-month Christmas pop-up in October 2021, Curated Makers extended its stay in the shopping centre for an extra 15 months – its longest pop-up to date. It stocked a range of unique products made by local small businesses, supporting more than 100 independent makers during its stay. Curated Makers’ markets in Leeds city centre will continue on a bi-monthly basis. Photo: Curated Makers

10. The Sportman Inn
The Sportsman Inn in Morley has now closed down, after the couple who ran the pub were told they would be losing the business by pub group Admiral Taverns. In a statement provided to the YEP, Admiral Taverns said the decision to put the pub up for sale was made because The Sportsman “did not have a long-term sustainable future”, despite David Holmes (pictured) and Melanie Robinson insisting it was busier than ever. They announced the pub's closure on Facebook on April 23. Photo: Simon Hulme

11. Triple Seven Pizza
Two friends who created a thriving business after purchasing a £150 pizza oven have recently announced the closure of Triple Seven Pizza. Matt Delahunty and his friend John Lincoln ran the company from a custom van based in the car park of Shire Fit gym, Calverley. However, due to ‘their lives changing’ the pair have announced the business will now close. Matt said the pair had been overwhelmed by the messages of support from their customers. 12. Mint Nail and Beauty
Mint Nail and Beauty, based at Trevelyn Square off Boar Lane, confirmed its plans to shut the salon “with a heavy heart” in an email sent to customers earlier this month. It closed its doors for the final time on Saturday (April 29). However, it said it would “not be the end” for its city centre business as bosses were searching for a new, smaller site to relocate. Mint currently has three other venues, including White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds, The Beauty Rooms in Wakefield and Meadowhall in Sheffield - which remain open. Photo: Google
