Kanassa, a Columbian Street Food stall in the market, posted on social media earlier this week to announce the devastating news to their customers.

Kanassa - meaning 'God of Fire' - served 'wholesome' street food inspired by Colombian flavours and ingredients.

The stall adapted traditionally 'meat-heavy' Colombian cuisine to be entirely vegetarian & gluten-free, with lots of vegan options too.

Staff said the 'impact of the pandemic' during their first year in the premises has meant 'they are unable to continue'.

They said they were 'gutted to say goodbye to our home' but will be leaving with 'heads held up high' and with 'a bag full of incredible experiences'.

'This isn't the end for Kanassa, just a little bump in the road', the post said.

A post on Instagram read: "WE ARE LEAVING!!

"We are sorry to announce that Saturday 1st August will be our LAST EVER DAY at Kirkgate Market!

"It’s uncertain and difficult times for everyone right now and the impact of the pandemic during our first year in the premises has meant that we are unable to continue.

"It’s been a whirlwind of emotions and of course we are gutted to say goodbye to our home.

"Mainly we will be leaving with our heads held up high, with a bag full of incredible experiences, amazing regulars and new found friends - you have given us SO SO much to be thankful for and you inspire us to keep on moving!

"This isn’t the end of Kanassa, just a little bump in the road, and we’ll do all we can to come back with a bang… for now, we just want to say thank you for being the heart of what we do!

"Come down and see us if you can before we go.

"We are open Tuesday - Saturday 11am - 3pm & our last ever day will be Saturday 1st of August.

"We do apologise for such short notice but this was unfortunately out of our hands.

"All our love Beth & Anna."

The staff got a huge amount of support from their loyal customers on Instagram.
