Leeds bookshop partners with Netflix to promote Agatha Christie classic

A bookshop in Leeds has joined forces with Netflix to mark the release of a new adaptation of Agatha Christie’s The Seven Dials Mystery.

Truman Books, located on 95 Town Street, Farsley, is one of seven women-owned bookshops across the UK which Netflix has chosen to spotlight in anticipation for release of the TV series.

Seven Dials, which stars Mia McKenna-Bruce, Helena Bonham Carter, and Martin Freeman, focuses on Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent, a young aristocrat who becomes an amateur sleuth when a lavish house party leads to a murder.

Visitors to Truman Books can come and pick up a free goodie bag which features a themed tote bag, notebook, and an edition of The Seven Dials Mystery, while stocks last.

True to the theme of mystery, one goodie bag even contains two tickets to the London premiere of Seven Dials on January 13.

As well as this, customers will notice a transformed shop front decorated with clock faces and copies of the book itself.

Truman Books is owned by Amanda Truman who left a busy London lifestyle to open the bookshop in Leeds in 2021.

For Amanda, it has been exciting to team up with Netflix to encourage more readers to visit independent bookshops and read Christie’s works.

Amanda said: “We are delighted that Netflix decided to focus on Agatha Christie, the best-selling female author of all time, and to use this as a means to to shine a light on independent, women-owned bookshops and the role they play within their communities, in championing a diverse range of authors and as a platform for cultural change.”

According to Amanda, the shop window has caught the attention of many passersby and the goodie bag competition has revived an interest in Agatha Christie who is the best-selling female author of all time.

She hopes that the campaign will make more people excited by reading itself.

Amanda said: “2026 is the UK's National Year of Reading with the aim of boosting reading for pleasure and tackling declining literacy. The campaign wants everyone to see reading as a modern, meaningful and social activity.

“Netflix, by choosing to link with indie bookshops like us, is helping to encourage people to explore the books behind the screen adaptations and make reading a relevant and fun part of the everyday."

The Seven Dials Mystery is available at Truman Books now and the TV series will be available to watch on Netflix from January 15.
