The Totally Locally Fiver Fest is a national campaign running from June 12-26, encouraging shoppers to divert £5 of their weekly spend to local businesses.

Several shops on Chapel Allerton s high street will put on £5 offers throughout the two weeks; including bookshop The Little Book Store, Armadillo toy shop and zero-waste shop Refilling Station.

They will join more than 100 businesses across the country in the fifth national Fiver Fest, run by grassroots organisation Totally Locally in partnership with Visa.

Businesses in Chapel Allerton will join forces for the Fiver Fest event

The event was first launched seven years ago and 130 towns and suburbs joined the last Fiver Fest in October.

Gift shop Chirpy, on Harrogate Road, is one of the businesses joining the scheme.

Its owner Jo McBeath said: "Fiver Fest will be a big part of our promotions for Chapel Allerton.

"The independent shops and businesses are what makes our town special and unique.

"The community support for local businesses has been amazing during lockdown, so these offers are to say thank you to customers, and to highlight the great value and economic impact of shopping locally."

The idea behind the campaign is that if every adult in the UK spent £5 per week in independent businesses, it would £4.6million for the local economy.

Chris Sands, of Totally Locally, said: "We know Fiver Fest isn’t going to change the world, but small changes in spending habits can really make a difference to our high streets.

"Just by diverting £5 of our weekly spend to local independents we give them a fighting chance to thrive.

"The pandemic has shown just what an amazing contribution they make to our local communities."
