Farsley business owner who feared for future of clothes shop praises customers for new high street boom

Business owner Dawn Farr, 50, runs Apparel clothing on the town street.

She told the YEP the "usual bustle" of the high street "just wasn't there" in a May article, with the high street "very quiet".

At the time, Dawn said: "It seems to be very quiet in general.

"There are less people moving around.

"I’ve spoken to other local business owners who are feeling it too.

"It is a concern for us all.

"I’m working hard behind the scenes organising events which will hopefully make up for the loss of revenue due to a drop in footfall.

"At the end of the day, the rent still has to be paid."

However, Dawn tried to remain positive.

Since the article was published, Dawn has overseen an incredible turnaround in trade.

She contacted the Yorkshire Evening Post and said trading days in the first week of June have almost matched "the whole of May".

Dawn said she had seen a raft of new customers and received great feedback since they learnt of her plight in the YEP.

She added: "It’s been brilliant!

"We’re feeling really buoyed by the response and support.

"In addition, we’ve also sold out of a evening event later this month and had a 100% take up on our wardrobe edit and colour services for June.

"Thanks very much for the coverage and your continued interest in independent businesses.

"It’s very much appreciated."

Dawn wanted to thank Farsley and wider Leeds residents for their support in the past month.

She added: "Saturday was a bumper day.

"Long may it continue."
