Wakefield Trinity Walk gets ready to reopen more shops

The team at the Wakefield shopping centre have been researching and designing new systems to safely welcome back shoppers from June 15.

Individual stores at the centre will decide if they open on or after that date because they control their own opening days and times, but it is expected several will.

Centre manager Cormac Hamilton said: “We know this is an evolving situation and no doubt some changes will be made once the new systems are in place, but we’re ready to do that.

The overriding aim is to make sure all our shoppers and staff feel safe and confident in visiting the centre. We’d also ask for everyone’s help, which is to follow all the rules on the malls and in shops. It’s also worth allowing extra time for visits because some queuing may be necessary as stores may be limiting how many people can be in a shop at any one time.”

All main malls will have entry points and painted lanes on the floor, meaning all visitors must always stay to the left and remain 2m apart from others.

Shoppers will be able to cross one-way lanes if absolutely necessary to access a shop opposite.

Car park charges will begin again on June 15, with shoppers able to get the first two hours parking free when they spend £10 or more in Sainsbury’s and get their ticket validated.

Centre toilets will be reopened but people are asked to use them only if necessary.
