"As many of you will be aware, there have been big changes this year in terms of the plan for Record Store Day. The original date of Saturday 18th April has now been replaced by 3 “RSD Drops” and the first of these takes place on Saturday 29th August.

"The full list of releases will be on sale over the counter only from 8am on Saturday 29th August. However, all remaining unsold stock will go online at 6pm on the same date.
"We have had to make some very difficult decisions to ensure that we have control of the number of people who queue up outside the shop. Social distancing and customer/staff safety is of paramount importance so we have had to put very strict rules in place. We need to ensure that customers are stood in a queue for as short a time as possible and are in and out of the shop very quickly.
"We have therefore decided that all customers who intend to visit us on Saturday 29th August need to book an appointment. We will allocate time slots to everyone that registers with us. Once we reach a maximum number of customers for the day we will close the booking system, although we are hopeful that won’t be necessary.

Please note: all RSD items will be listed online as 'unavailable' until 6pm, strictly one per customer, no pre-orders."
Nick Fraser, co-owner of Jumbo Records, said: "Record Store Day has always been the single biggest day of the year and it's already been postponed twice.
"But I think the setup will be a better one. It's going to be across three weekends rather than one, and records will be made available online from 6pm, so that may help ease some people's concerns about going to stores.
"We had some regulars tell us they were going to miss it this year but we had others saying 'we'll be there all night queuing!', and we thought, well we don't really want you to. There are two almost entirely different things to combine - we want everyone to be safe and we want people to be able to buy lots of records and it's almost, how do you have both?

We feel we have a responsibility to people this year to make sure it's done safely. But we also want people to come in and feel like it's Record Store Day and make it fun and hopefully they'll go away thinking 'yes that was a good experience at Jumbo Records' and go home and play their new music. We've made a lot of effort to make it work this year.
"Record Store Day is always important and the biggest day of the year by far. Retailers are coming to the end of the furlough support period and we want to get staff back in but we need takings to go up.
"We never know what's going to happen and for all we know Leeds could be back in lockdown next month. All we can do is smile and make a real effort."
