Regulars at the Nomadic Brewery's taproom prior to lockdown will recall the brewery opened up once a month, however from this week, the taproom will now be open every Friday and Saturday.

When lockdown was imposed back in March the brewery, based in Sheepscar, lost pretty much most of its trade overnight as it was primarily a cask brewery. So, it applied for a premises licence in order to keep on trading by offering a delivery service.

However, the new permissions mean that it can open the taproom more often.

A soft launch was held recently to see how the regular openings would go and from this weekend, Nomadic will be opening its taproom on Friday evenings and Saturday during the day.

Katie Marriott, owner of Nomadic Beers, said: "To survive we needed to quickly adapt and one of the things we did was to apply for a Premises Licence for the brewery, which would allow us to continue trading by delivering beer directly to consumers. The knock-on effect of this is we are also now able to open our brewery taproom more regularly."

Mike Hampshire, who heads up Bars as part of Nomadic said they had enough space to implement the social distancing guidelines.

“We have a big space at the brewery so when the Government guidelines came out about re-opening hospitality venues, we felt we could do something here that would make people feel in a safe environment, whilst still keeping the social element that they want from a bar.

“We’ve been able to work on a limited capacity, with two metre social distancing measures. We have been able to avoid the use of facemasks for staff, and glass shields at the bar to keep a more natural feel. We’ve even configured the tables so people can socialise with adjacent tables whilst still observing Government guidelines.”

“We ran a soft launch event recently and gathered some really positive feedback from those who came. It’s now given us the confidence to open fully to the public."

The taproom will open every Friday 4pm-9pm and every Saturday 12 noon-8pm. A booking system is available to reserve space. It is not mandatory but is recommended.
