Lidl confirm plans to create 1,000 jobs as it opens a new store each week for the rest of the year
Budget Supermarket chain Lidl has announced it wishes to create 1,000 jobs and open one new store per week by the end of the year.
A total of 25 new stores are planned for 2020 followed by a drive to open a further 100 stores across the nation by 2022, creating an additional 4,000 jobs.
The drive comes as part of a £1.3bn investment plan from Lidl as it seeks to have 1,000 stores in Great Britain.
A spokesperson for Lidl was unable to confirm the locations in Yorkshire of any new stores but said it was targeting all of England, Scotland and Wales as part of its investment programme.
Lidl GB chief executive Christian Härtnagel said: “It is testament to the continued hard work of our colleagues that we are able to continue forging ahead with our expansion plans, despite the challenging circumstances that have been faced over the past months.
“I am incredibly grateful to all Lidl teams for their unwavering commitment to keeping the nation fed, and we very much look forward to welcoming more people into the Lidl family in the weeks and months ahead.”
