Leeds shops open during Tier 3 with extended opening hours including Marks & Spencer and Primark

Stores across Leeds will be extending their opening hours during the Christmas period.

Retailers usually have to go through a time-consuming process to get permission to extend their hours beyond 9am to 7pm, requiring the approval of local authorities under the Town and Country Planning Act.

The move will allow stores to open around the clock during December and January, making way for a less chaotic and safer shopping experience in the lead up to Christmas.

Marks and Spencers

Marks & Spencer will be keeping several stores in Leeds until midnight in the lead-up to Christmas.

Other stores in the city will also stay open later, with some closing at 10pm.

All stores will be closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day before returning to its regular opening hours from the 27th.

Pudsey

From today (December 3), the Pudsey Owlcotes M&S store will be open from 8am to 9pm every day.

From Monday 14 until Christmas Eve, the store will open from 8am until midnight.

This does not include Sundays when the hours will remain 11am to 5pm.

Leeds City Centre

The M&S store in Briggate will remain open slightly later from Monday 14.

It will be open from 8am to 9pm.

In the run up to Christmas (week commencing 21st) it will be open until 10pm.

Leeds Crown Point

The Leeds Crown Point M&S Foodhall will begin staying open until 9pm from Wednesday 9.

It will open until 10pm from Thursday December 17.

In the run up to Christmas (week commencing 21st) it will open from 6am until midnight.

It will close at 7pm on Christmas Eve.

Moortown

The M&S Simply Food store on Moortown Corner will also operate extending hours from Monday 21.

It will be open from 6am until midnight.

On Christmas Eve it will be open from 6am until 7pm.

White Rose Shopping Centre

From Today (December 3), the M&S in the White Rose Shopping Centre will be open from 8am to 9pm every day until Sunday 13.

From Monday 14 until Christmas Eve, the store will open from 8am until midnight.

On Christmas Eve it will be open from 6am to 6pm.

Primark

Primark has confirmed the White Rose Shopping Centre store will open from 7am on Wednesday.

It will remain open for 24 hours until closing time at midnight on Thursday December 3.

The store will then trade from 7am until midnight until at least December 23.

Opening hours at Trinity Leeds Primark will also be extended, with the store opening from 8am until 10pm.

Waitrose

The Meanwood Waitrose branch will be open from 8am to 9pm during the Christmas season every day except Sunday.

On Sunday the hours are 10.30am until 4.30pm.

The store will be open until 10pm on the week commencing the 21st.

It closes at 6pm on Christmas Eve and will reopen on Sunday 27.

The Otley branch will open from 8am to 10pm from Monday 14.

This does not include Sundays.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's superstores across the city will open until midnight during the festive period.

The Leeds Headrow, Arndale Centre in Headingley, White Rose store and Colton store will open from 6am to midnight from December 21.

The Moortown store will open from 6am to midnight from December 22.

All stores are on Christmas Day.

Boxing Day opening hours differ depending on the store and it is advised to check the website.

Aldi

Aldi will extend its opening hours to 11pm for three days leading up to Christmas Eve, from 21 December to 23 December.

It will operate a normal Sunday service on 20 December from 10am to 4pm before the change to opening hours from 7am-11pm on Monday 21 December.

There could be variations from branch to branch so it’s best to check the online store locator for the opening times of your local Aldi.

Aldi stores will shut at 6pm on 24 December, close on Christmas Day and remain closed on Boxing Day.

Lidl

Lidl has just released its opening hours with its stores across England staying open until 11pm and in Scotland staying open until 10pm on the days leading up to Christmas Eve, excluding Sunday 20 December.

Its shops will close at 6pm on 24 December, remain closed on Christmas Day and open 11am-5pm on Boxing Day before normal opening hours resume.
