The Leeds-based budget airline has seen a spike in bookings to the Balearic Islands (Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca), Malta and Madeira since last night's announcement.

Several UK Overseas Territories and Caribbean Islands (including Barbados) will also be added to the list from 4am on Wednesday June 30.

Jet2 com and Jet2holidays reported the highest volume of bookings to the Balearic Islands in almost a year, with bookings for July alone up more than 3,000 per cent.

Bookings to Malta and Madeira also jumped by almost 1,500 per cent, after the airline added new flights to the destination from Leeds Bradford Airport.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: "“We knew there was a lot of pent up demand out there but the response from our customers has been truly incredible.

"Bookings to Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Malta and Madeira have gone through the roof, which shows just how much UK holidaymakers want to get away.

"We have already added more flights in response to that demand, and we are geared up and ready to restart flights and holidays on July 1.”
